WIAW: weekend edition

I have a confession to make.

I am not always as healthy as I come off as…

I know, I know.. but I am human. Everything in moderation, right?

This week’s What I Ate Wednesday is full of gluttony..

This past Saturday was a day complete with beer, chips, more beer, peanuts, and even a Snickers bar.

Don’t hate.

Before I continue.. don’t forget to head over to Jenn’s site and see what other people are eating today.. Guarantee it’s healthier than this!

So, Saturday morning started off great! I woke up happy and started off on the right foot with two eggs, cabbage, an apple, coffee, and sweet potato hash. YUM.

The BF even wanted to show off his breakfast.. He even set it up and took his own pic–making sure to get the Chargers cup in the back.

He had coffee, a banana, and a crunchy PB and grape jelly waffle-wich. (too cute).

Lunch rolled around, and the bad food blogger in me, and I totally forgot to snap a pic. I had a healthy lunch though–chicken and cabbage salad with dijon mustard. Nothing exciting…

Then, it happened. Everything went down hill.

First this:

(p.s. I love this bar–Monkey Paw in East Village San Diego)

This this…. Coronado Brewing Company Coffee Stout (yum)

(another favorite bar– Bub’s at the Ballpark in East Village San Diego)

At this point, I was still making “okay” decisions. Since it was time for dinner, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Salad (no BBQ sauce or dressing–it’s a super good salad). It comes with chicken, avocado, tomato, onion, cucumber, and mozzarella cheese.

Then I had this… Bluemoon with Extra Oranges (vitamin C)

And these….

And this…. (Guinness, of course–because I’m a Believer)

Which then led to these delicious Jalapeno Trio Smart Fries!

And a not-as-good-as-I-thought-it-would-be Almond Snickers (split with The BF).

Once we got home, I didn’t stop.

I had a handful of my new obsession, banana chips.

*The drunchies (drunk + munchies) have obviously set in.. and I continue with a small bowl of peanut flour, sliced banana, and a scoop of crunchy peanut butter.

(I swear, I need to learn to just go to bed!!)

Waking up Sunday, I was feeling under the weather (to say the least)… What better way to clean up my act than with a CHOBANI. The banana flavor is fabulous.

I cleaned up my eating throughout the day–and ended on a FABULOUSLY DELICIOUS note with this gem from Laura.

It’s her Microwave Protein Carrot Cake.. and, needless to say, I will make this again. I topped mine with a mixture of cottage cheese and sugar free maple syrup.

So, there ya have it. I am human and not some robot who eats healthy 100% of the time. However, I am still paying for my decisions. BUT–did I have fun? YOU BET. Would I do it over? HECK YES.

xoxo, Haley

Question: What did you think of The BF’s breakfast? I think the blogging thing is growing on him 😉

Tell me you have crazy nights where all healthy things go out the window.

Guinness Believer: Private Tasting

About a month ago, The BF and I attended a private tasting event for Guinness.  I thought it would only be appropriate to let you all know about it on this Irish holiday that is celebrated in America–with lots of BEER!

The event was held at a small business space in downtown San Diego.  We were asked to be there 30 minutes early.. Of course, we were there with bells on – ready!

When we entered, there was a welcoming sign and we were immediately given a token.  The token was to exchange for a pint of Guinness (duh) or you were able to take it to the “pour your own pint” station and do it yourself.  We opted out of the “pour your own” because the line was ridiculous.

Throughout the night, there were old-time Guinness advertisements cycling on the wall.

About 20 minutes in, a gentleman came on the mic and basically talked about how awesome his job is.. Really though–he travels around the US, drinks Guinness, and talks to people about beer.  (Sign me up!!)

He talked about the history of Guinness–it started back in 1759!!!  Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease on an unused brewery at St. James’s Gate, Dublin. It costed him about $147 US dollars.  (Could you imagine?!)

There was a contest to see who could do the PERFECT pour.  I didn’t get chosen to go up, but did you know the PERFECT GUINNESS pour takes exactly 119.5 seconds??

-Tilt it 45 degrees, fill it 2/3.. Wait for it to settle.. Top off the glass!

There was an Instagram contest.  We had to hashtag #guinnessbeliever and the winner would receive a t-shirt. The BF wanted to do a sequenced pic of me drinking..

Then put it together….

Unfortunately, we didn’t know there was a cut-off time.. and didn’t win.  wa-wa… 😦

After our pint was dry (fairly quickly), we were given a taster of the new Guinness Lager.

Verdict?  I AM A FAN!  I loved it and plan to purchase some for my own.  (excuse the bad lighting in the pic)..

We learned a couple recipes using Guinness:::

*Half Guinness, Half Harp

*Half Guinness, Half Smithwicks

Overall, we had a GREAT night and I am planning to “paint the town black” today!

Question: Guinness Believer?  Or no?

Honestly, I wasn’t before this tasting!  I never ordered it when we were out.. Now, I enjoy it.  🙂

Relaxing Sunday 🙂

Oh what a weekend!  It was a good one… I must say.. 🙂

Question: Are your Sundays spent relaxing??

Live in San Diego??  Check out Bar Basic and Mission Brewery!

Super Dee-Duper Bowl Sunday

Today is a day of indulgence and I am full accepting that fact. I know that today I will consume more than usual but Super Bowl comes but once a year.

To start the day off, I tackled Cindy.  As you can see, she is AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 20 minutes of 5 Pull-ups, 10 Push ups, and 15 Squats.

thank goodness for pull-up bars in da house..

I was huffin’ & puffin’ by the end (and waaayyyy before that), for sure.  I finished with 20 rounds & 5 pull-ups, 7 push-ups.  In total, that is 105 pull-ups, 207 push ups, and 300 squats.  YOWZA!  I would say I am ready for the game & the debauchery that will ensue..

Weekend Wrap Up

Another weekend down and back to work. Why do they go by so quickly?

I spent Friday night playing bunco with my monthly bunco group ladies.

For those of you who have never heard of this game, google it now. Basically a group of 12 women get together, roll dice, snack on munchies, and drink.. A lot. It is so much fun and I look forward to the last Friday if every month. In February we play at my house.. I’m looking forward to sharing the post with you all because I have some fun recipes!

Saturday’s plans were to drop Stanley off at doggie daycare for the night (Bark Boulevard) and head to Los Angeles for our friend’s birthday. I was lucky enough to have The BF drive so I could get some work done. (He’s the best!) the drive took about two hours and then some.. Flew by because my face was stuck in my computer.

We got to Blake and Lia’s (it was Blake’s birthday) and were hungry. Luckily, they live super close to The Grove shopping center. You would recognize the name if you ever watch Extra with Mario Lopez (AC Slater). The BF and I got a kick out of the fact they film twice a week in front of these huge fountains.. then pick up like they were not even there…

oh, AC, where did the “Saved By the Bell” days go?

We walked around The Farmers Market to find some lunch. It was a neat area that had every type of food you can think of.. There are vendors that are selling artisan type things as well. We chose a counter top eatery called Loteria. It was a unique Mexican spot with more chipotle and mole flavors. I ordered The Summer Salad and topped it with their chipotle salsa. No pics were taken because I didn’t want to embarrass Blake on his birthday 🙂 but the salad was a bed of romaine and spring lettuce with jicama, avocado, tomato, cucumber, cotinga cheese, and pepitas. I was pleasantly surprised how delicious it was!

We then strolled to Planet Dailies and had a drink at the roof top bar called Mixology. I commented several times that I felt like I was at Miami Beach. The booths were swanky couches with palm trees blowing in the wind. It was a beautiful place to enjoy the sunshine.

Our next stop was back to Blake and Lia’s to relax before the shenanigans began…

Eventually, this ensued…

Have you ever played Cards Against Humanity?? It is now my favorite game. I suggest you look it up. Lia informed me that you can actually print out the cards and have them cut at Staples… The site even tells you which container to buy at The Container Store to hold the cards. We had a blast playing the game and drinking some libations 🙂

Me and The BF

I stuck with beer for the night.. My favorite, by far, was the Six Rivers Brewery Chili Pepper Spicy Ale! Spice is nice, right?

I also rolled with a Lost Coast Brewery Raspberry Brown. Fruity and yummy.

We walked over to The Rosewood Tavern.

IMG_2745 IMG_2744

It’s a local bar that specializes in whiskey. If you see in the pic, they have a huge wall dedicated to it and even have a ladder to get to some! I had the Telegraph White Ale that was sour yet tasty. It would be a perfect beer on a warm, summer day while sitting on the porch. Very refreshing.

Lia and Me

We meandered over to The Kibitz after one drink.. It was a small bar, sorta divey. Okay, very divey. There was a live band playing. They were so good…I didn’t get their name nor did I pay attention. (Aka not good)…

Us 4!

Eventually we made our way home. The birthday boy enjoyed himself a lot that night.. And a great time was had by all!!

Happy birthday, Blake! Here’s to many more…

Xoxo, Haley
